by John Jones

You are a handgun hobbyist if you keep a few guns for collection purposes. But even if you’re not a collector, you may have a few weapons around the house for a range of purposes, like hunting or self defense. A drawer can be a convenient place to keep a gun, but it’s hardly the safest. You do not want anybody to come across your firearm and get interested about it, particularly not young adults or young children. You also don’t want any attackers from efficiently disarming you by looking at the obvious areas where everyone else would keep a firearm. What you need is a safe place to keep your gun.

An Armaments Room

If you have the space to spare, you can build a small work shop where you can clean your guns on your free time when everybody else is asleep or away from home. The whole room should be equipped with safety characteristics, and your vintage show weapons mounted high up the wall so no youngster or pet could get to it. You can build several cabinets for diverse types of guns, with each cabinet equipped with padlocks. Along the walls, you can have your very own room for gun books and armaments supplies.

One main reason why you ought to have a space devoted exclusively for your gun hobby is safety. No one should be around you while you’re cleaning or clearing your guns. You should make sure that everyone gives you a wide berth when you’re checking a rifle to make certain that it is not loaded. You should also ensure you are wearing defensive gear like goggles. It is not recommended to pick up a firearm if you have been drinking coffee or alcohol. it’s also not safe to clean a gun when you are tired.

A Rifle or a Gun Container

If you don’t have much space, you can settle for a small pistol case under the couch. But for your safety, you should always keep your weapon case someplace else to be less obvious about the fact that you’re keeping a gun. If a robber should get in your house, you do not want him grabbing your pistol container with no trouble simply because you stowed it away somewhere too obvious (like under the couch).

Trendy Storage for Your Weapons

As far as stylish storage is concerned, you have a few alternatives. You can go for cabinets that go with the decor of your residence. You can even have one customized by your interior decorator so that the gun cabinet fits right in and nobody would guess that a few weapons are kept inside your fashionable cupboards.

What you need to steer clear of, however, are the cabinets that only look great but don’t do anything in terms of security. Glass cases may be excellent to view and give an elegant display of your firearm antiques. However, should anybody want to filch your guns, they only need to break the glass to obtain them. Choose cabinets made of dense lumber like cedar. You may even install a number of extra drawers for your other hunting stuff and ammunition.

The ones that are trendy now are convertible storage containers that can be used to make an exhibition of your collection and to store your apparatus. If you’re not enthusiastic about conventional cabinets, you can go for modern ones, wall mounted and compact.

Even without reading a survival guide, you might have been hearing a lot about emergency bags and bug out bags recently. In fact, the more news of accidents and calamities happening all over the world, the more people are finding out about these survival kits. Survival kits are meant for survival scenarios, or in situations wherein there is no time to think and even less time to collect all the things you need to move to a safer place. Some people like to keep these kits near the door or inside the car so that they are prepared to evacuate at any time.

Tips for Making Your Survival Bag

1. Light and Heat Sources

You must always take for granted that you will not have a steady supply of electrical energy if you move out of your home because of a natural disaster. With this in mind, you can come up with various tactics to get lighting and heating equipment. Get battery-operated lamps, waterproof matches and flint. Store the batteries and matches in watertight plastic containers.

2. Ponchos, Jackets and a Change of Clothing

Clothing that shelter you from the elements are great to pack in your survival kits. These pieces of clothing should be able to protect you from the cold and from rain, and can double as pillows when the climate is warm. You must never forget to include a change of clothing, particularly socks and underwear. Wrap your garments in impermeable plastic to keep them dry.

Put on neon colored clothing like those that bikers wear to be more discernible to motorists. If you are fleeing from danger on foot, these are important for your protection.

3. Rations and Water

It is suggested to include an unopened bottle of mineral water inside the bag for individual use. But if you’re fleeing from danger with your family, the one who can carry more should lug a gallon or two of mineral water for the whole family to drink. Energy drinks are not recommended as they are diuretics.

Trail mix and power bars are great as emergency food. Something that will keep well without refrigeration and small enough to fit in the bag can be used.

4. Temporary shelter

Whether it’s a small umbrella or a tarpaulin for two individuals, make sure you have something that will protect you from precipitation and cold just in case you need to sleep out in the open. Watertight tents are excellent for this function. You can spray your tarp with silicon to provide more lasting power and durability. Small raincoats can be added into the kits meant for small kids, while bigger tarpaulins can be carried by teenagers.

5. Knife for Cutting

A knife is necessary for cutting rope, opening canned provisions and for self-defense. It is also necessary for making fire when you are using flint rather than matches. Grown-ups should be the ones to carry knives in their kits.

Johnson & Johnson First Aid Kit

6. First Aid Bag

The basic first aid kit contains medication for head aches, tummy aches and for treating wounds. You should also stock up on bandages and cotton balls. Have a splint prepared just in case someone slips and breaks a bone. Your first aid kit should also have anti-allergy pills if one person in your family is allergic to dust or other pollutants. Medication for high blood pressure must be added into your first aid kit if a person is suffering from hypertension in your family. The same goes for other health conditions that need maintenance tablets.
